MD TWO FIFTY

This One’s for Maryland!

In 2026, America turns 250. In observance of our nation’s semiquincentennial (yeah, that’s what it’s called), America250, a nonpartisan initiative, has encouraged all 50 states to develop their own unique commemorations. We teamed up with the Maryland 250 Commission to develop a branded commemoration that examined America’s history through the eyes and experiences of Marylanders.

Visually, we took cues from our iconic state flag. A saturated version of the iconic red and yellow brings an added energy to designs, while still feeling familiar. You’ll also see the Calvert and Crossland patterns pop-up as dynamic graphic elements and containers. Adding a vibrant teal, inspired by our state’s waterways and shores, provides an exciting complimentary option.

We Call It… MD TWO FIFTY

Maryland’s Governor Wes Moore wanted this to be “the most inclusive commemoration ever.” So, with that as our marching orders, we sought to develop an identity that all Marylanders could see themselves in. The commemoration is rooted in stories, and stories are written with letterforms. That’s why we spelled out “TWO FIFTY” instead of going with “250” in numeral form. We also translated the name MD TWO FIFTY to almost 20 languages, based on statewide demographic information.
